This billet rear main seal replaces the failure-prone cast aluminium factory rear main wiper seal on Audi's 2.7T and 2.8 V6 engines, including the B5 S4 and RS4, C5 A6 and allroad. It is CNC machined from 6061-T6 aluminium with a gloss black anodised finish and carries an OEM Elring Viton seal with an integral tension spring to keep a tight seal against the crankshaft. 034Motorsport notes that the Viton seal copes better with higher crankcase pressure than the factory wiper seal, and that a failed rear main seal can cause crankcase pressure problems and even misfires. It is a direct replacement for OEM part 078 103 171 L and comes with new grade 8.8 mounting hardware.
